The matriarchs of the Christian faith, the wives of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, were all barren. That amazes me. It’s encouraging that the Bible tells us of their barrenness so that we can identify with them. God also opened their wombs. It has given me hope.
Genesis 11:30 – “But Sarai was barren; she had no child.” Genesis 21:1-2 – “And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah had conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.”
Genesis 25:21 – “And Isaac intreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was intreated of him and Rebekah his wife conceived.”
Genesis 29:31 – “And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.” Genesis 30:22 “And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened unto her, and opened her womb.”
We are in good company with our biblical examples of old, including others I did not mention yet, most notably, Hannah. Don’t lose hope that God can do the same. I have always prayed God would open my womb, and I have prayed the same for many women like me.
